THE "DORSET DO" HISTORY

Our show was suggested after visiting the January “Saxon Bash” organised by the The Saxon Stickmakers, in Sussex.

We felt we could offer a show to complement their event in our own area at the end of the year in October, and so the

“The Dorset Do” was born in 2008.

The show has been a great success and every year we attract more visitors and this year it will be even better. There are side shows and continuous demonstrations, with guest speakers,

We try to ensure the show appeals to anyone with an interest in woodworking and rural crafts but the emphasis is on stickmaking. We usually have woodturners, crafts, woodcarvers, a stick show, forestry workers, tool dealers, stick supplies shop, pyrographers, and well known speakers from the woodworking world.

The event has grown over the last five years and now tries to encompass more crafts with appeal to a wider audience. So at the H & D Stickmakers AGM in October 2012 it was agreed the the event should be run independantly of the Stickmakers and Woodcarvers and a new Committee was formed at the inaugural meeting on the 3rd of November 2012.
